Tuba 36 is the whopper of the Tuba line, and not just by dint of its size. Like in the familiar fast food slogan you can build your Tuba 36 'your way'.
For unmatched extension and sensitivity you can build a 36x36x36 inch monster
loaded with two fifteens. Or you can build a 36x36x20 inch 'Slim' version,
load it with one fifteen or one twelve, and stack as many as you need for
your LF extension and SPL output needs. Or you can build something in between
the two extremes. You even have options for frequency response and average
sensitivity. Build the vertical baffle version for extension to 15 Hz, or the
horizontal baffle version for less extension but higher output. Here's a 1m/1w
SPL chart for the 30 inch wide horizontal baffle version, loaded with one
Eminence Magnum 15LF, compared to one of the premier commercial subs, the
dual 18 loaded $1300 JBL SRX728S.
Here's a review from builder Christian Senf:
If you're reading reviews of the T36 you are clearly interested in maximum
bass. You have found your subwoofer. These things crush any commonly available
commercial cabinet. I have compared a couple, both powered and unpowered, and
nothing is even remotely close. The design is suprisingly forgiving. Enjoy the
process. Bottomline: If you have the power, space, and desire for absurd bass,
you own it to yourself to build this thing.
What's most important is that you can build this pro-touring concert sound
capable sub woofer for as little as about $300 when loaded with a single
Eminence Delta 15LF driver, and get performance that is the equal of many
commercial subs retailing for ten times the price.
