What do you get when you combine a Tuba sub with a high sensitivity
MTM? David. A mid-sized (48x15x15 inch) floor-stander, David, like his
namesake, takes on and defeats speakers that are much larger, not to mention
a lot more expensive.
The original was loaded with a $35 MCM 55-2421 woofer, two $11 Pioneer
midbasses and a $16 MCM dome tweeter. Does using inexpensive drivers
result in an inexpensive sound? No way. If you've got a store bought
speaker that cost less than $1k it probably can't touch this 1m/1w SPL:

With average sensitivity of 95dB/2.83v/1 meter this is one powerful
speaker, and with response of plus/minus 2.5dB from 38Hz to 16kHz it's also
very accurate. In room the bass response extends to below 20Hz. And the best
feature? How about a build cost as low as $300- for a pair! If you're a
single driver aficionado feel free to substitute your favorite Fostex,
Lowther or Jordan full-ranger for the MTM; the woofer will be able to keep up.
Want to use Davis midbasses and a Raven ribbon tweeter? Go right ahead.
Or use the same drivers as the original and enjoy world class sound at
a bargain basement price. Watch out, Goliath! David is here.
